What a pleasant surprise,Obama really did win. The meese in Alaska have gotta be wary again though,Caribou Barbie a.k.a. Bible Spice a.k.a. Sarah Palin is back! I was watching CNN and the right-wingers were quite sore losers though they tried hard to appear gracious. I don't even remember any time in which the entire world was as euphoric as now over the election of any leader. That said, he has sky high expectations to live up to.He has to fix the economy, win the war on terror, heal racial divides and turn water to wine among others.

He just picked Rahm Emmanuel as his Chief-of-Staff, which is interesting.Interesting because,in Hebrew, Rahm and Barack are translated as lightning and thunder. That's like friggin' cool. Besides i wanna hear Rahm speak,he's apparently full of profanities. That is like even cooler. I was at an uncle's place and one of my relatives was genuinely wondering if Rahm was of Indian descent cause' his name sounded Indian. Seriously.

The elections are over and I have nothing to live for. I shall spend the rest of my days left on Earth pondering my cause. Only pondering,i don't wanna discover my calling of course. That'd be too much work to do.

Barack gave an awesome speech as usual, but just imagine it in a Singaporean context.. I saw an adaptation in Today paper by a journalist named Phin, and it was quite funny. I wish i could give my own version of the speech, but i just read the manuscript and that is a challenge beyond even me. But i still hope to attempt it sometime in the near future.

And a note to my tagboard Ob@m@ regarding your last tag, I'm always ready, available and willing. ;)

Being called a Muslim is considered a smear in America. Even though i can understand why it is as such,i still am disgusted by that. For the uninformed, Obama has been 'smeared' as a Muslim for months now. Plenty of viral e-mails are making the rounds on the Net, even though it has been repudiated beyond doubt by the man himself.

He is thought to be Muslim partly because his full name is Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Though it is known that he had an African father who was a non-practising Muslim and that he has been a Christian all his life, the rumours still exist. There are also false rumours that he studied in a madrasah while living in Indonesia during his youth. These rumours are spread so as to cause the Americans to fear him as some terrorist. Hatred for Obama is very obvious at McCain-Palin rallies recently with people shouting things like 'terrorist!','kill him!' and 'off with his head!'. This is 21st century America?! I'm sure that the majority of Americans are nice, smart, tolerant people. But crackpots who shout such incendiary things should not be allowed to get away scot-free.

Not just that, his relationship with a 60s era terrorist called William Ayers is also being hit upon hard. Even though these acts took place when he was 8 and the so called terrorist is actually a well regarded figure in education nowadays. The way the McCain campaign has been attacking him for this makes it seem like Obama is intentionally best buddies with a terrorist. This man Ayers was named Chicago's Citizen of the Year in 1997. Well,to any rational person it would seem like this is not a very good line of attack to carry out. Furthermore,Obama has been forthcoming about their relationship, denounced his acts of terrorism and it's clear that Ayers is not in any way advising Obama on anything. But this attack is nevertheless going to be continued as it reinforces a subconscious thought into people's minds that somehow Obama is foreign,un-American.

The most shocking thing about the tactics that are being employed by the McCain Campaign is that back in 2000,McCain was subjected to the same type of lies by Bush. Bush accused McCain of fathering an illegitimate black child. This even though this was a Bangladeshi child that the McCains adopted not illegally fathered. hmmmmmm...... You would think that as someone who has experienced such negative campaigning against him,he would know better than to employ the same tactics. Furthermore with a reputation for being a 'maverick' who said that he wanted to run a civil campaign about the issues, he sure has come a long way to this sort of Rovian tactics. One can argue that,in such a bad year for Republicans, he has no choice because he would lose if he talked about the issues. I still think that for a man who is a war hero and talks about honour and dignity so much, he should have at least an ounce of that and try his best to wage a civil campaign. His campaign, and this is the ironic part,is being run by the same guys who ran Bush's campaign! So essentially the guys who smeared him and now working with him to smear others! I would get my balls sued off in Singapore if i said something considered to be even a little racially destabilizing. And these guys get paid to do the same thing?! Now i know why people everywhere want to go to America.

My point is that i think such politics should have no place in any political arena, especially in such a 'socially, economically, culturally developed' place as America. I use quotation marks because i think even though they trumpet themselves to be some sort of moral compass, this sort of discriminatory behaviour suggests otherwise. The first black man to actually have a reasonably good chance of becoming President and this sort of racial tension is stoked again. America talks relentlessly about human rights yet there is a significant amount of people there who are not ready for a black president according to polls. Why should skin colour even matter if all of us are humans with the same rights? But the polls also show that Obama is leading in the race and hopefully it stays that way. I believe he is the more likely of the two candidates to be able to restore America's standing and respect in the world. I for one would finally respect them for having the brains to elect someone with brains and not someone they'd rather have a beer with. Apparently, Americans voted for Bush because he was like them,'one of them'. It's the same way they feel now about Palin, that she's 'one of them'.

I find this absurd. I would never want a guy like me running the country,I'd want someone a heck of a lot smarter than me doing it.

So they think that if their leader is like them,he will know how they feel. That would be valid, except the policies of the Republicans don't match that. They believe in trickle-down economics where if you help the rich with tax cuts, eventually the poor will get jobs. I think Obama's philosophy of bottom-up economics makes more sense. Help the lower and middle classes and the economy will start running again. I really think it would send a strong statement out to the world if Obama is elected that America is sincere in wanting to gain the respect of the world and engage in multilateralism instead of being a lone sheriff.

You guys may wonder why I am so interested to the point of obsession in the American election.

One reason is because I am surprised how someone like Bush got elected and i want to follow this process to find out if Americans have actually learnt anything from the past 8 years of crap. But my interest is mainly due to Obama. I really believe that he is the kind of leader that we will tell our children about in the future just like how people talk about Roosevelt,Lee Kuan Yew, Kennedy now. From reading about him,he strikes me as a person who will surround himself with people he agrees and disagrees with,a person who can accept different points of views without feeling the need to impose his own,a person who will seek to find consensus and not just do what he feels like. If he gets elected, watch his inauguration speech and i guarantee you that you will feel a chill up your spine when he speaks.Watch this for proof. He has the ability to inspire optimism and hope. His critics will pan him for being all about soaring rhetoric, but a leader must have that ability. The ability to rally his troops when all seems lost, the ability to make people want to work together for a better future and the ability to make his people work for the greater good. He has his flaws like all of us do,but I believe he will still make a great leader.

A shout out to my dear friend,Chandni!! And a note to the other person on the tagboard, stop thinking so highly of yourself.

Feels good getting that out of my chest, now to get down to business. Saturday Night Live is gonna be shown on Star World !!

Well the biggest news in Singapore now, unsurprisingly,is F1. But i wonder if we will lose the interest for it when it takes place next year. I believe everyone is so into it now because of the novelty factor. This is probably the first major worldwide sporting event to take place here. Add the fact that it's a night race, which has never been done before, and the novelty factor is multiplied. But i think the novelty factor will wear off next year. There are plans to have night races in other Asian countries so as to better suit the European viewing time. Then Singapore cannot just rely on people coming here to feel what a night race'd be like. We have to ensure that the experience people have off the track is just as good. This means we have to show great hospitality and have a very lively off-track scene. I think we've got quite good events trackside and we should come up with more,so as to keep people coming back year after year. The running of the event has gotten well deserved praise so far. We hear lots about German efficiency, well after this race,Singaporean efficiency is gonna become a part of the sporting lexicon.

Well actually i think the reason that everyone is praising our circuit is because they are afraid. Just imagine someone saying that
our organisation and track suck. The guy in charge of the lighting could just switch off the lights mid-race to scare the crap outta everyone. When the lights come back on,Hamilton would be hanging from the Singapore Flyer and you'd see Massa impaled by the Esplanade's spikes. You'd see Raikkonen under the Anderson bridge,Kovalainen sprawled out on the Padang and a buncha engines in the Singapore River. The rest would just be landing on the Marina Bay floating platform sorta like the paratroopers on National Day. Only Force India drivers will not be affected as we all know, they drive without lights in India anyway.

Think about it, everything was prepared in 18 months. Kudos to the race organisers and our tireless construction workers. by the way, while we're on the subject of construction workers, go read this. i can't be bothered anymore.

i have unearthed a stunning discovery. behold my genius.be astounded by me.
before i start, this is a biased post as i bear sort of a grudge with the topic i am about to write on.so if u want to read something unbiased,go here.

Tamil songs nowadays are getting absolutely nonsensical.

Although their increasing 'nonsensicality' is well documented,i feel the need to chip in with my two 'paisa'(indian cents) worth. This is the translation of a song from the 60s.Simple yet meaningful.

Your eyes are the door to your soul.Women are the cause of our relationships. Give your soul to a woman. And respect her as your life.

now juxtapose it with one of 2008's most popular songs. This song is so popular they came up with a one hour show for it.Behind the scenes look and all..

The cow died and Man ate it.He used its hide as a skin for a drum.

He made women and put a womb in them.he put a fire in their wombs and made it burn.Madurai is burning. Extinguish it!Extinguish it! LARISOMA,LARISOMA!

You heard me right. that really is the translated version of the song. Surprise! It's nonsensical in both Tamil AND English!hahah..Now Non-indians will be wondering what exactly 'larisoma' is. Well to put it simply,it doesn't mean anything. its just in there to sound happening.
but i give credit where it's due,it's catchy. thus it has served it purpose.

Whereas in the past, songs and movies were meant to make one think, nowadays they are just meant to sell. This probably is reflected in other industries not just the tamil one.But i find that the difference in the movies 4 decades ago and now are much more stark here than in other industries.

1960s, the movies were mostly family oriented with loosely translated titles like 'Divine Birth','Don't disobey the Mother' and 'All for you'. Nowadays, many titles are absolutely hilarious. 'Spider','Bad Guy','God is in room 307'. haha..I'm not trying to say all the movies are bad,but majority of movies nowadays are trash as far as i am concerned. And it's disgusting how much sex is in the movies. Dance scenes seem to always have a scantily clad woman dancing around. But the sad truth of the matter is that SEX SELLS. Gosh,i've been having problems with indian movies for the past 5-6 years i tell you. I can't comfortably watch an entire movie with my family anymore! well that's all. gotta go catch one of those rare things.

a good indian movie.about an adopted girl, her realisation she's adopted and how her adoptive parents bring her on a perilous journey to find her biological mother. needless to say,it won awards but didn't run at the cinemas very well. morons

two

This post is gonna be largely about politics so if you're not interested or you can't comprehend, save yourself the trouble and go here.

hehe

McCain is leading Obama in the polls. This is just plain scary. i thought that at least now Americans would have realized that Republicans smear their way to election victories. they're doing it again and it's working! Hats off to the GOP though. At the end of the day it's winning that matters and they sure know how to do it. Their lies are well documented and yet the public is paying no real attention to it yet. The dynamics of the race started changing once Sarah Palin was selected.

Genius pick,i tell you. Once a woman is picked, any attack on her can immediately be framed as SEXIST!. She's a mother of five, youngest with Down's Syndrome, who hunts and does many other All-American things. Perfect appeal to women. This is even though she isn't strong on women's issues-she opposes abortion in all circumstances including rape. When people started asking how a mother of five could leave her duties to become v.p,they cried SEXIST! WOULD A MAN BE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION?! Of course not, dipsticks. Honestly,i think she should concentrate on being a mother. But i'm Asian and we think differently in this part of the world.

I was hoping this election would be of the 'new kind of politics' Obama promised. But you know, you can't win an election being nice. Now Obama is being slammed for not being 'above the fray'. haha i find this very funny. He was previously slammed for always taking the high road. Damned if u do,damned if u don't. Catch-22. Obama'd better win. I just wanna see a black guy as president, even though he has to try twice as hard. Racism still exists.Live with it.

Singapore's Paralympic team has won 3 medals so far and set one world record. I say give them equal benefits as able bodied athletes. And all of this was by LOCAL TALENT. I don't have anything against foreign talent, but i just feel much prouder if someone local wins. One thing struck me when i was watching Tao Li at the Olympics last month. Other than her enormous shoulders,i was wondering if she was allowed to take part in the national schools' championships. Apparently, she is! That's just so sad for the rest of them in her age group. Imagine training everyday for a year, and on competition day you're on the starting blocks visualising your race. Then you feel a bump,Tao Li's shoulders are extending to your lane!haha just kidding. but imagine how some swimmer who's trained so hard feels when she realises she's racing Tao Li in the fly.World No 5,Asian record holder Tao Li. They should like impose a 50 m handicap on her! even then it may be close.

If you are here to find out about what i have been doing today, where and with whom  i've been and such trivial information, my advice to you is to go find another blog to read.

Ah,finally a place to air my random thoughts on anything and everything. My flashes of brilliance were sorely in need of a medium in which they could be recorded. This, so that future generations could have an understanding of the human brain in the early 21st century.

haha...away from the egotism now..

I will be the first to admit that i am not the most complex of creatures, but still i believe i have more constructive things to write about. Well, more constructive than the legions of bloggers who write about their lives and still boast a high readership anyway. i still fail to understand why on Earth someone would write about their my private life on a public medium like the Internet?!

So it's probably quite obvious what direction i will be taking this blog in. I hope to inject my weird sense of humour into every entry, inteionally or not.  I actually intend to write in proper English because NS is leaving my brain to rot. And yes,you will not hear about my private life unless i find something blog-worthy or incredibly humorous which i deem fit for publishing. That's about all for now as i have something very important to do. I suggest you get a life too. haha!
